Slob Cobia in the "Cobia Bowl" tournament 74.1lbs! #stoked

Had a pretty unforgettable weekend that started off with pure chaos and scramble. So, after running trips all week and 5 having some pretty amazing fishing and just catching a Cobia close to 60lbs the day before the tournament to say the least I was stoked and ready to fish. Well, then a little hiccup came up we had a charter booked for the tournament, but with the foul and miserable looking weather forecast we decided to reschedule. So minutes before the captains meeting I was talking to Capt Justin and he offered me up a spot to fish day 1 in the tournament with long time friends Justin, Kemp, Ken, Lauren and Justin son Bryce on their boat Knotguilty. So day 1 was about as unforgettable as it gets. The overcast skies forced us to go chumming like the good ole days. We got anchored up on one of Ken Brady's ole time favorite fishing holes and boy did it produce. Line in at 6:00 we had our first fish on at 6:45 and it was a BOOWOW. We had 3 lines going off at one time. Justin, Ken and I all picked up a rod and thought that one fish was tangled up all 3 rods, So on the count of 3 we all together reeled down and set the hook Justin and Ken had sharks and my rod at a stud Cobia that was already 10ft behind Justin's boat. Pure chaos in full swing we had the heat to the fish and the Accurate Fx-400 had the fish to the boat within seconds! Once we boated the fish we knew it was 70 plus pounder! So on the rope and back to fishing we went. Next up was Lauren the rid went running out she picked the rod up and she landed our second fish that would be the winner of the ladies division! Stoked with now having two really nice fish we had high hopes to get Bryce on top of the youth division fish. So minutes later a rod starts dumping out Bryce all on his own picks the rod up and sets the hook and another GIANT comes to the surface. We boated the absolute slob and then was faced with the hard decision to let the big one go that we had alive on the bow rope or keep Bryce fish. After a hard study and lots of measuring and picking each one up we decided the first fish was just a little bigger. So Bryce released the stud that would have also been a 68-70lb fish all day. Pretty incredible to have two fish that size in the same day. We stayed fishing and we caught a few more smaller fish then a break in the clouds we decided to go looking. We sight fished for about an hour but only saw a few smaller fish so with the 4:00 weigh in we headed in to dock. Our big fish ended up being 74.1 lbs and for the two day tournament put team Knotguilty out of 125 boats in second place overall, 1st place in Calcutta and Laurens fish won ladies division with a nice payout $11,370! It was a great time and a unforgettable day! Now back to charter fishing we go! So to say the least the Cobia fishing has been incredible!
